R&D Tax Credit Specialists in Glasgow

R&D tax relief specialists in Glasgow for merged-scheme RDEC and ERIS claims, qualifying-cost analysis and HMRC-compliant technical reports. Fixed fee agreed up front, ACCA-regulated.

Overview

Prepare a defensible RDEC or ERIS claim

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 April 2024, the merged R&D expenditure credit (RDEC) and Enhanced R&D Intensive Support (ERIS) replaced the old SME and RDEC schemes. Countify identifies the technological uncertainty, maps qualifying staff, software, consumables and subcontractor costs, prepares the project narrative and additional information form, and reconciles the claim to your CT600. First-time and lapsed claimants may also need to notify HMRC before filing, so we check eligibility and deadlines before work begins.

Primary sources: Corporation Tax: Research and Development (R&D) relief (HM Revenue & Customs) and Corporation Tax (HM Revenue & Customs).

Questions

Frequently asked
questions.

Ask a different question
Which R&D tax relief scheme applies in 2026?

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 April 2024, most companies claim the taxable merged-scheme R&D expenditure credit at 20%. Loss-making R&D-intensive SMEs may qualify for ERIS instead, which uses an 86% additional deduction and a 14.5% payable-credit rate. We test the company and project against the correct scheme before calculating the claim.

What work qualifies as R&D for tax purposes?

A project must seek an advance in science or technology and resolve uncertainty that a competent professional could not readily work out. It can include software, engineering, manufacturing, energy and other sectors; being commercially new or difficult on its own is not enough.

What costs can an R&D claim include?

Qualifying expenditure can include relevant staff costs, software, consumables, data and cloud-computing costs, externally provided workers and some subcontracted R&D. Contracting and overseas expenditure rules determine which company can claim and whether a cost is restricted.

Do I need to notify HMRC before claiming?

You may need a claim notification if this is your first R&D claim or your previous claim falls outside HMRC's three-year test. Every claim also needs an additional information form submitted before or on the same day as the Company Tax Return; without it, HMRC will reject the claim.

How long do I have to make an R&D claim?

An R&D claim is normally made in the Company Tax Return and is generally limited to two years after the end of the relevant accounting period. Claim-notification deadlines can arise earlier, so a company should check them before waiting for the CT600 filing deadline.
