Where to find your Copy of your Self Assessment tax return
In your personal tax account
- Sign in to your HMRC online account and go to Self Assessment.
- View the returns you've made before, and print your tax calculation.
- For proof of income, choose 'More details about your Self Assessment returns and payments' and print the SA302 and tax year overview.
From your accountant
- If an accountant filed your return, ask them for a copy of the return and the tax calculation.
- If you filed with commercial software yourself, print the tax calculation from that software and contact its supplier if you have trouble.
What it looks like
The full SA100 return with any supplementary pages, such as self-employment or property, as submitted for one tax year. It's separate from the SA302 tax calculation and the one-page tax year overview.
If you've lost it
- Sign in to your HMRC online account and view the return again.
- If you filed with software or through an accountant, ask them, or print it from the software.
- If you have problems getting the documents, contact HMRC.
Return, calculation or overview?
People asking for 'a copy of my tax return' often need something else. The return is what you submitted: your income, expenses and claims. The SA302 tax calculation shows how HMRC turned that into a tax bill, and the tax year overview summarises what was due and paid.
Mortgage lenders and other organisations asking for proof of income usually want the SA302 and the overview, not the full return. Ask which they need before printing.
Software and accountant-filed returns
A return sent with commercial software is held in that software, and the tax calculation is printed there too, sometimes labelled a tax computation. You can still print the tax year overview from your own HMRC online account.
You can't print documents from your HMRC account until 72 hours after the return was sent.

Questions
Frequently asked questions.
Can I see my old tax returns online?
Yes. HMRC's Self Assessment online service lets you view returns you've made before. SA302 tax calculations are available for the last 4 years and tax year overviews for any year.
My accountant filed my return. Where's my copy?
Ask your accountant for it. If the return went in through commercial software, the tax calculation is printed from that software. You can still print the tax year overview from your own HMRC account.
How soon after filing can I print anything?
72 hours after the return was sent.
Does my mortgage lender need the full return?
Usually not. Most ask for the SA302 tax calculation and tax year overview. Check with your broker or lender which years and documents they want.
