Where to find it
Where to find your tax documents and references
Lenders, accountants and HMRC itself regularly ask for a reference number or document you were sent once and may not have kept. Each guide lists every place it can be found, usually the HMRC app, your personal tax account or a letter, what it looks like, and how to get a replacement if it's gone. Where a reference is a common target for scam messages, the guide says how to spot and report them.
