Who needs it
- Any company whose director has changed their name, service address or home address.
- Not new appointments (AP01) or directors leaving (TM01).
What you need before you start
- The company's authentication code, if you file online.
- The director's current name and date of birth as shown on the register.
- The new details and the date they changed.
How to file CH01
- 1Check what has changed. The CH01 covers name and address changes.
- 2Check whether the new address is the director's service address, which is public, or only their home address.
- 3File online, or print the CH01 full size on white A4 and post it. Companies in PROOF must file online.
- 4Do it within 14 days of the change.
- 5If the director is also a PSC, update the PSC details separately.
What the CH01 covers
Companies House's page is specific: you can only use the CH01 to register changes to a director's name or address. Appointing a director is an AP01, and an appointment ending is a TM01.
GOV.UK's running-a-company guidance says changes to directors' personal details, like their address, must be reported within 14 days.
Service address and home address
Directors give a service (correspondence) address, which is public. If a director uses their home address as the service address, GOV.UK says they can ask Companies House to remove it from the register.
Identity verification
A change of name doesn't replace identity verification. Existing directors still give their Companies House personal code on the company's next confirmation statement.
Common mistakes
- Using the CH01 for anything other than a name or address change.
- Putting a home address in the service address box, where it becomes public.
- Updating the director record and forgetting the PSC record for the same person.
- Sending paper when the company is in PROOF.

Questions
Frequently asked questions.
My director moved house. Do I need a CH01?
Yes. GOV.UK says changes to directors' personal details, like their address, must be reported within 14 days. If they use it as their service address too, that changes on the public register.
Can I change a director's nationality or occupation on the CH01?
Companies House's guidance says the form is only for changes to a director's name or address. Check the online service for other details.
Does the director need to verify their identity again after a name change?
Companies House says that in most cases you only verify once and must not verify again unless it asks you to.
